Smoke alarms are critical and are a mandatory requirement for rental properties, as well as in all new buildings. Consider long life photoelectric smoke alarms. They last longer and their batteries are less likely to be disabled, or to be set off accidentally. A photoelectric, long-life smoke alarm. These detect heat from fires as well as smoke and are less prone to false alarms. Ensure they are placed on the ceiling or high up a wall, but not too close to the edge of the wall or ceiling.
